Edtech 513 Digital Story Project

It was difficult to figure out a topic for my digital story for a variety of reasons. I didn’t really have a story to tell. When I did think of something It had no intrigue or tension. Finally, I decided to talk about something I think about all the time- destiny. During my career I have been the recipient of good fortune. Granted I worked hard for countless hours to get where I am but I am certainly not special in any way. I seem to be at the right place at the right time. But would all this have happened had I been selected as chief medical resident in 1996? I ponder this question a lot. I will never have the answer to this question but I believe all the opportunities that have come my way likely wouldn’t have had I gotten that trophy I really, really wanted. At the time I was very disappointed but everything works out how it is supposed to. That’s the point of my story.

The personalization principle states that people learn more deeply when the words in a multimedia presentation are in conversational style rather than formal style (Cambridge Handbook of Multimedia Learning, 2014, p 345). I used a conversational style in my story. I also used the word “I” a lot and make self revealing comments.

While I enjoyed viewing some digital stories over the last few weeks and see how they can be very powerful, I don’t think this will be very useful for what and where I teach.  I also don’t think I did a very good job making my digital story visually interesting. I used PowerPoint with transitions as the main tool. I used Corel VideoStudio Pro to screen capture the video. I used music that was part of the Corel package. I used these tools because I have experience with them and didn’t have a lot of time to work on this as I was out of the country for most of the time we were to work on this project.
